Day 1: Portland – Newberg

Your Best Bottle guide greets you on arrival at the PDX airport or your designated point of entry to the Portland Metro Area. A private car will transfer you to your hotel where chilled Argyle bubbles await your arrival.

Accommodation: The Allison Inn & Spa

Day 2: Dundee

Meet your private vehicle and driver for 8 hours of service at your disposal. Go behind the scenes for an in-depth and educational tour of the Archery Summit Winery. Follow the path from vine to wine and begin your journey in the Archery Summit Estate vineyard where you will learn how great wine truly begins with exceptional vineyards. From there, descend into the gravity flow winery and unique barrel caves to learn about the winemaking process. During your tour, you will enjoy a selection of Pinot Noirs as you learn about each meticulous step it takes to craft them.

Make your way to the tasting room at the sleek Winderlea Vineyard & Winery for a tasting flight of five wines, including a Chardonnay and four Pinot Noirs. A portion of all tasting fees are donated to ¡Salud!, the organization that provides healthcare services to Oregon Vineyard workers and their families. Since opening in 2008, Winderlea has donated over $100,000 to these services through tastings. Because of this, Winderlea does not refund tasting fees for bottle purchases.

Lange Estate Winery is a 2012 Wine and Spirits Winery of the Year! Experience a reserve tasting flight of Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Pinot noir, including the winery’s coveted single vineyard Pinot noirs. The friendly and knowledgeable staff will guide you through the wines, while you take in the beautiful Dundee Hills views.

Dinner @ JORY Restaurant (Not Included)

JORY is named after the rich, fertile soil in the Willamette Valley and specific to growing pinot noir grapes. A dedication to local food traditions and a celebration of the region’s rich wine culture has elevated JORY to become one of the finest Willamette Valley restaurants. The creative menus accentuate the native flavors of the valley with a strong influence on seasonality, local garden-to-table agriculture and an affinity for wine pairings.

Day 3: Dundee & Beyond

Meet your private vehicle and driver for 8 hours of service at your disposal. Experience some of the fine Dominio IV wines in an intimate tasting room. The winery resides in the thriving Granary District of McMinnville, Oregon. What was once a dilapidated, agricultural storage building has since been renovated into the perfect home for creating and enjoying wines. The interior facades were torn away from previous remodels to reveal original walls composed of beautiful, local lumbers. Stacked, roughcut two-by-eights glow with a natural warmth that makes the tasting room cozy and intimate: the ideal space to taste and share stories. During the warmer seasons, the doors to the tasting room spill out to an outdoor patio.

Visit the Elizabeth Chambers Cellar Tasting Room & Winery to experience an exceptional tasting of our 92-point signature blend, a collection of renowned single vineyard Pinot Noirs, and classic Willamette Valley Pinot Gris. Our newly renovated historic power plant building celebrates the authentic character of McMinnville, a small town that promises big wine discoveries.

Built in 1926, the brick building provided energy to the community for decades, powered by three diesel electric generators. The tasting room maintains the industrial feel of its previous incarnation yet has been updated for its new role to give guests a warm welcome. Guests are welcome to taste at the bar, have a seat, or relax in the patio garden on sunny days. The winery and tasting room are all in one building. Many winemaking processes can be observed from the comfort of a seat in the tasting room, and winemaker Michael Stevenson is glad to spend time with small groups of guests when he can.

Stuart & Co. blends the fire and passion of four spirited partners, all of whom share a love of wonderful Oregon wine. The winemaking is primarily on Pinot noir, Pinot gris and a brut sparkling wine Rosé d’Or. The wines are authentic, easy, approachable and perfectly balanced to pair with food. Today you’ll enjoy an educational cellar tour & tasting, where you’ll have a comprehensive look into what makes R. Stuart & Co wines fabulous. You’ll finish a few blocks away at the Wine Bar where you’ll end with a flight of the most current R. Stuart & Co releases.

Dinner @ The Joel Palmer House (Not Included)

Cooking at the Joel Palmer House revolves around wild mushrooms and truffles which are gathered among friends. The chefs have always endeavored to obtain locally raised ingredients in their cooking, and use many locally produced greens, herbs, and vegetables, many of which come from the restaurant’s own culinary garden. Frequently drawing inspiration from the cuisines of Mexico, China, Thailand, Poland, and India, you’re served up from a menu of “freestyle” cuisine. Of course, they work hard to create dishes that complement the glorious wines of Oregon, especially Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay.

Day 4: Beyond Dundee

Meet your private vehicle and driver for 8 hours of service at your disposal.

Well over thirty years of winemaking have taught the winemakers at Ken Wright Cellars a simple truth: source is everything. When you work with sites that have a “ton” of character, great things can happen. These great things cannot happen without a commitment by the vineyard owner to the health of the vineyard, and extremely low crop levels that ensure intensity of aroma, flavor and texture. Ken Wright Cellars is devoted to showcasing the inherent quality of selected vineyard sites. With a clarity and breadth that is unequaled by other varieties, they believe Pinot noir best expresses the character of these sites.

Enjoy a private tour and tasting at the WillaKenzie Estate tasting room. This experience includes WillaKenzie wines paired with select cheeses. Start by enjoying two choice whites as you begin your touring experience. Explore the sensory garden and discover your favorite wine & cheese pairings prepared with tasting note mats to document your thoughts. Four single vineyard Pinot Noirs will be shared along with WillaKenzie’s coveted Reserve Pinot Noir.

Picnic Lunch @ Wilakenzie (Not Included)

Bring your own picnic to the WillaKenzie Estate and enjoy the outdoor patio, with gorgeous vineyard views.

The tasting room at Elk Cove Vineyards overlooks the beautiful estate vineyards and Oregon’s Coast Range Mountains. Try award winning wines, take in the view, and check out some of the tasting room exclusives – where they often pour wines you won’t find anywhere else. The Reserve Flight, your tasting for today, includes 46 reserve level wines, including Library Selections and Single Vineyard Pinot Noirs.

At the Adelsheim Vineyard, the insightful and friendly staff will provide you with an unforgettable, personalized tasting experience focused on their single vineyard Pinot Noirs from incredible sites through the North Willamette Valley. Found only at the winery, these wines represent the highest standards of craftsmanship, elegance and ageability. The wine flights change throughout the year based on the limited production of the wines, but the staff can educate you on all wines within the Adelsheim portfolio.

Explore the Newberg area this evening for dinner at your leisure (not included). Perhaps make your way to Tina’s Restaurant where the menu is based around what the neighbor farmers produce, or Nick’s Italian Café, with their voluminous wine cellar.

Accommodation: The Allison Inn & Spa

DAY 5: Wine Tasting by Helicopter

Meet your private vehicle and driver for a short drive to the landing pad. Be prepared for a truly unforgettable day! You get to choose one AVA out of the four listed below to tour. Each tour by AVA includes three total experiences. First you and your group will meet at a designated location (a local winery/bed and breakfast/restaurant) to enjoy pre-flight festivities. (The week of your tour we will confirm where the meeting location) Next you will fly to two different wonderful wineries with lunch included. Overall you will receive three separate experiences which includes about a half hour total of flight moving from one event to the next.

You will be visiting one of the following area for this experience. It’s a tough choice! Here are your options:

Ribbon Ridge AVA Est. 2005 is a very regular spur of ocean sediment uplift off the northwest end of the Chehalem Mountains, containing a relatively uniform 5 1/4 square miles (3,350 acres) of land. Approximately 500 acres are currently planted on the ridge, within 20 vineyards. The AVA is distinguished by uniform, unique ocean sedimentary soils and a geography that is protected climatically by the larger landmasses surrounding it. Paucity of aquifers forces most vineyards to be dry farmed. Ribbon Ridge is contained within the larger Chehalem Mountains AVA.

Chehalem Mountains AVA Est. 2006 is a single uplifted landmass southwest of Portland in the northern Willamette Valley, extending 20 miles in length and 5 miles in breadth, stretching from southeast to northwest. It includes several discrete spurs, mountains and ridges, such as Ribbon Ridge and Parrott Mountain. The highest point within the Willamette Valley is the Chehalem Mountains’ Bald Peak (at 1,633 feet) which affects weather for the AVA and for adjoining grape growing hillsides. It is the geography and climate that differentiate this AVA from others. All three important hillside soil types are represented: basaltic, ocean sedimentary and loess (blown lake bed sediment), the predominant soil on the northern face of the Chehalem Mountains. Within the almost 70,000 acres of this AVA are over 1,600 acres of grapes, grown in over 100 vineyards, and 31 wineries.

Yamhill-Carlton AVA Est. 2005 North of McMinnville, the foothills of the Coast Range create an AVA of nearly 60,000 acres, centered around the hamlets of Carlton and Yamhill. Low ridges surround the two communities in a horseshoe shape, with the North Yamhill River coursing through nurseries, grain fields, orchards and more than 1,200 acres of vineyard. This pastoral northwest corner of Oregon’s Willamette Valley provides a unique set of growing conditions. The Coast Range to the west soars to nearly 3,500 feet (1,200m) establishing a rain shadow over the entire district. Additional protection is afforded by the Chehalem Mountains to the north and the Dundee Hills to the east. Importantly, the coarse-grained, ancient marine sediments native to the area are some of the oldest soils in the valley. These soils drain quickly, establishing a natural deficit-irrigation effect.

Dundee Hills AVA Est. 2005 The first grapes in the Willamette Valley were planted in the Dundee Hills AVA. It remains the most densely planted locale in the valley and state. Within the 12,500 acres of this almost exclusively basaltic landmass that runs north-south and overlooks the Willamette River to the south and the Chehalem Valley to the north, more than 1,700 acres of grapes are planted in approximately 50 vineyards. It is approximately 30 miles to the southwest of Portland and 40 miles east of the Pacific Ocean, with protection from the ocean climate provided by the higher Coast Range of mountains.

After your helitour return to the Allison Inn & Spa where the rest of the evening is yours to enjoy and relax at the spacious resort.
